Our Amazing Experience in Nepal

Namaste! I have just returned to Kathmandu after a week in the

Expeditioners given farewell marigold wreaths and blessings

field on a CHOICE Expedition into the Lamjung District in Nepal.  The CHOICE-Trivani Field Team took great care of us and made arrangements for our lodging and food that immersed us in the local culture… a truly amazing and priceless experience.

We stayed in the villages of Turlung and Puranokot– in the homes of local villagers who prepared  Chai Tea and local popped corn for sunrise snacks overlooking the millet and rice terraces. Curry, dahl, chipati (flatbread), mountain cakes and sweet rice pudding were among the meals we enjoyed.  There was also much dancing, singing and plenty of marigold wreaths and blessings to make each of us feel welcome and comfortable.

The adventure was exhausting, but powerful and completely fulfilling.

In addition to a lot of hiking around, we worked very hard in both villages. In Turlung we moved rocks and helped mix cement for some footings on their new school, and in Puranokot we broke ground with the villagers for the foundation of a new health clinic that will serve many nearby villages. Both of these projects are expected to significantly increase the educational quality for local children and the health of many families in these rural mountaintop villages overlooking the Annapurna Mountain Range.

Over the course of the coming weeks, we will continue posting stories, photographs and experiences from this expedition….so please stay tuned; there’s a lot of exciting things happening. Cheers!
